Clara Wulfsen Associate Attorney

Biography

Clara joined Carney & Appleby in 2024, bringing a diverse background in law and policy. Clara graduated from Drake University Law School with a Juris Doctor degree in May 2020. While at Drake, she was an active participant in Drake Law Women and Delta Theta Phi and also had the opportunity to study abroad in France. Prior to law school, Clara earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from the University of Iowa in 2017, where she also minored in Economics and Physical Activity and Nutrition Science, and earned a Certificate in Critical Cultural Competence.

Clara has extensive experience in legislative advocacy and policy development. As an Advocacy and Policy Coordinator for the Iowa Bankers Association, Clara coordinated efforts to influence legislation and regulations, raising significant funds for advocacy initiatives as PAC coordinator. During her time at the Iowa Department of Revenue, Clara helped draft and pass numerous legislative proposals and administrative rules. Clara also successfully managed the reorganization and review of over 1,600 pages of administrative rules.

Clara is licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois and has had a well-rounded career, including experience as an elections law clerk for the Iowa Secretary of State, and working as a student attorney in the Drake Law Business Transactional and Entrepreneurial Legal Clinic. 

Outside of the legal field, Clara is dedicated to community engagement and is involved in various local organizations such as PEO and her local church. Clara currently resides in Des Moines, where she enjoys spending time outside with her bernedoodle, Hazel.
